About
Afghanistan Refugee Families
partner Since Q2 2022
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) helps people affected by humanitarian crises—including the climate crisis—to survive, recover and rebuild their lives. Founded at the call of Albert Einstein in 1933, the IRC is now at work in over 40 crisis-affected countries as well as communities throughout Europe and the Americas.
Since October 2021, the IRC has resettled over 800 Afghans who were forced to evacuate their country and leave everything behind. The IRC provided initial housing, access to health care, employment assistance and enrolling kids in school. Members of the Scottsdale community and SUSD opened their arms to welcome some of these families, and helped them feel like they had truly arrived home in Arizona.
