About Texas Children’s Hospital

The Infusion Center provides family-centered care to children requiring short or long-term infusion therapy and therapeutic injections in an outpatient setting. The staff specialize in infusion therapy and work closely with other members of the healthcare team to provide safe, efficient care for children up to 18 years of age. Due to varying hours of treatment, the center provides a variety of entertainment for all ages including a library for their patients.

Due to COVID restrictions in 2020, the library was forced to close down for hygiene reasons since the infusion center is a high risk treatment center. It provided so much relief to patients of all ages and was a way for children to get lost in their thoughts while enduring long hours of treatment. We hope to rebuild this haven for every patient to experience this luxury again.

Meet the Ambassadors…

Imran

Imran is 6-years old and loves reading about different characters and their missions to fight and save people. Texas Children’s Hospital and their infusion center are very near and dear to Imran and his family. Imran has a very rare genetic disorder called Osteogenesis imperfecta or in short, OI. People with this condition have extremely soft bones which means they are very prone to break their bones. It is an extremely rare condition as only .005% of the population have it. So Imran is very special to say the least!
During the pandemic, the Texas Children’s Hospital Infusion Center, where Imran gets his treatments every 3 months, had to close down due to COVID restrictions. The library held a close place in his heart because it was a haven for him during his 6 hour treatments. Imran was able to lose himself on magical adventures while coping with his IVs and blood draws. Imran and his mom, Zarina often found themselves in fantastical jungles or wild escapades instead of in their 3 foot squared hospital bed. When they removed all the books they knew they had to rebuild the library as soon as possible. Through the inspiration of Anaik and his story of helping hospitals during the shut down, they have been able to find a path to do so for Texas Children’s Hospital.

My favorite people are Dragonball Z and how strong Goku is when he needs to be brave.

Layla

Layla is 13 years old and is a 7th grader. Reading has been a big part of Layla’s life from an early age when she would often stay up way past her bedtime with a flashlight and book in hand. Layla has a younger sister named Mila who is 8 years old and loves reading books about animals.

I was inspired to take an active role with the Loving Library after attending an event in Arizona in 2022 where I personally witnessed the huge impact that this amazing kid-led organization is having on the community. Finding ways to help people deal with pain and suffering is very important to me. By simply donating a book, we tell people that we are thinking of them and that we care about their mental health. I feel privileged to be able to help the Loving Library with their mission.
