About International Rescue Committee
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) helps people affected by humanitarian crises—including the climate crisis—to survive, recover and rebuild their lives. Founded at the call of Albert Einstein in 1933, the IRC is now at work in over 40 crisis-affected countries as well as communities throughout Europe and the Americas.
Since October 2021, the IRC has resettled over 800 Afghans who were forced to evacuate their country and leave everything behind. The IRC provided initial housing, access to health care, employment assistance and enrolling kids in school. Members of the Scottsdale community and SUSD opened their arms to welcome some of these families, and helped them feel like they had truly arrived home in Arizona. Karina
Karina is 14 years old and in the eighth grade. She loves being involved with philanthropy around the valley, and holds leadership positions in both National Charity League and her school’s NHJS. Karina is passionate about theater, performing arts, and reading. She is thrilled to be working with Anaik’s Loving Library and hopes to make a difference in the community.
I feel so honored to have the opportunity to work with this incredible organization. I believe books are the perfect avenue to escape stressful times and expand your horizons. Having access to books is something I am very grateful for, and I aspire to enable all kids to experience the same joy I gain from reading.
Jovin
Jovin is 8 years old and is in second grade at SUSD. He is happiest when he is sharing with others, reading, listening to music or DJing. He is so excited to help his fellow Afghanistan classmates with books and activities with Loving Library!
I love reading – it’s my favorite thing to do – and I am so excited to share it with others. Sharing the gift of books to kids in need makes me the happiest
