Company: Anaik’s Loving Library
What it does: Anaik collects children’s books to donate to area hospitals for patients to read
What inspired you to start this organization? I started Loving Library last year around my birthday because I wanted to help people who went through what we did. Reading helped me while I was lonely during Covid so I thought it would help hospitalized Covid patients as well.
What is your hope for the Loving Library going forward? Do you hope to keep it going even after the pandemic is over?
Yes, my hope is to provide books for all types of hospitalized patients that are in the hospital for more than three days, such as people that have cancer or surgeries. I also would like to give books to children at Phoenix Children’s because I’m a kid and I want to help kids just like me. I just had Covid and books entertained me while I was in isolation.
What does it mean to you to be able to help people in this way at only 9 years old? It makes my heart grow bigger because when I see someone else happy, I become happy.
Who has inspired you and helped you along the way? My mom inspires me because she always says “kindness is never wasted,” and I believe that. Mayor Kate Gallego inspired me and helped me because she made Loving Library real by partnering us with Valleywise Health Foundation. She is also an amazing leader because she stands up for the rights of everyone in Phoenix.
Has the success of Loving Library inspired another big dream you want to accomplish? Loving Library has taught me to never give up and always be kind. One of my biggest dreams is to attend Stanford and to become an NBA player who stands up for equal rights. I know I can do this by working hard and persevering.
What do you want to be when you grew up? NBA player or entrepreneur that creates video games.
